My name is Amanda Cruess and I am a junior student in the computer science department at Rice University in Houston, Texas. I plan to graduate in May 2007 with a B.S. in Computer Science. Thanks to the support of the Computing Research Association's Distributed Mentor Project, I am participating in research at Rice during the summer of 2005. The DMP matches undergraduate women with faculty mentors, and during a summer the undergraduate has the opportunity to be involved in a research project at their mentor's home institution.

My mentor is Dr. Lydia Kavraki, a professor in the computer science department at Rice University. Her Physical and Biological Computing Group works in both robotics and bioinformatics. I am working in the bioinformatics side of the group.
