Project Journal - Week 6

7/9/04

Spent an hour downstairs trying to get Aristo to function. Failed miserably. Stupid wireless network. Threw a notebook at the couch in frustration. Talked to the comp sci wizards who know how to make things like this all better. Got told that there is no reason why Aristo shouldn't work. Got taken downstairs with Aristo and had it proven to me.

If it's not one thing, it's another. This needs to not happen on Game Day.

7/8/04

If I could do backflips, I so would. At eversolong last, I have mastered the JavaScript. For real, this time! It checks to see if you've entered anything in the text fields, and it doesn't do the silly hiccup thing it was doing earlier, and life is GOOD! Yay!

I also got started on getting the surveillance camera webcam thinger going. Tomorrow I'm going to try with Aristo again downstairs, only this time I'm going to have the laptop plugged in to the wall. It seems to work better when I'm only relying on the wireless at one end, rather than both. Also, I'll try setting up the webcam downstairs, too. *nods firmly* This weekend is test runs. Hope those go well.

Goals for tomorrow: Practice with Aristo downstairs. Practice setting up the webcam. Bribe as many people as I can to help me test run the experiment. Bribe a few people to help me RUN the experiment. Finish all the little details of the experiment (boxes, stuff for said, confirming that I have the rooms and access to said, etc.). Finish the JavaScript. DONE AND DONE!

7/7/04

A fecking remote control car would be more reliable than Aristo is right now. Stupid wireless network. I think tomorrow I'll try to get access to one of the rooms where I'll be working this weekend and next and see if I can't hook the laptop up to a landline as opposed to fighting the wireless connection on both of them. *sigh* Also, I despise JavaScript and all it stand for. But I'll get over it.

Goals for tomorrow: See yesterday.

7/6/04

YAY!!!! I finally managed to get Aristo out of the MnM lab today! He didn't go far, because it's been raining a lot lately, and the roof in this building leaks, so the carpet by the (temporarily out of order) elevator was too slick and wet for accurate navigation (hello wall!). However, if things work out more better tomorrow, I might get a chance to take him downstairs, even if I have to push him into the elevator by hand.

Then there's the hell that is JavaScript. One part refused to be fixed, so I ignored it to work on another part. The fix that should have been short and sweet was anything but, but the first part somehow got itself fixed. I am vastly confused and royally peeved. We'll see if I can't get it working tomorrow.

Goals for tomorrow: Aristo actually downstairs. Get people to help me test run stuff tomorrow. Continued plugging away at the JavaScript. Same ol' same ol'.
