~ started planning out a collaborative interface for DynaCat with post-its, markers, mens, scrap paper, and white boards
~ learning more about shopping for groceries, cooking and baking
~ "reinventing the wheel": wasting time redesigning features that can simply adopted from elsewhere ~ not knowing what to focus on/being distracted by too many options
~HIGHLIGHTS~

I figured out how to link Microsoft Word documents to each other, how to link Excel cells into a Word document, and how to create links in the EndNote bibliographic program. iMed Meeting #8: Meredith presented her interface ideas and our group discussed them; a good meeting overall! Kris showed me a demo a the current functionalities of DynaCat. I evaluated pros and cons of various information systems, wrote out goals for the DynaCat collaborative interface, and started to "sketch" out some ideas. Nothing extremely exciting at work. I summarized more articles, and worked on an interface. I cooked garden style potatoes from a recipe! 5th DMP lunch. iMed Meeting #9. Prof. Pratt discussed ideas from Edward Tufte's workshop. I also baked banana nut muffins!

I learned that UC Berkeley only allows grad applications to one school. I need to get cracking on GRE prep.

I enjoyed planning out the DynaCat collaborative interface on Friday. I used the new sitting area in the ISchool Research Commons well. I have to say that I continue to like color and whiteboards, and am beginning to appreciate post-it notes. Thanks to Tasha for suggesting the use of Post-Its and paper for designing an interface!

I still haven't coded, but that's ok. My goal right now is finish considering the design options for the collaborative interface for DynaCat.

Over the weekend I explored downtown Seattle and a bit of Fremont, with fellow DMP'er Morgan. She visited the Underground Tour, and I went shopping in the Pioneer Square Antique Mall. We briefly stopped by the Seattle Art Museum, Benaroya Hall, and Pike's Place in downtown Seattle, and then headed to find the Fremont Troll (I think it's on the corner of 36th St and Aurora Ave) and the Lenin statue.

My goals for the coming week:
~ Present DynaCat collaborative interface mock-ups at iMed Meeting #10.
~ Decide on vacation plans and whether or not I want to participate in the SURP symposium.
~ Learn how to use VB to code the DynaCat collaborative interface.
~ Talk about next steps: paper or poster, possible research for next year.
~ Continue exploring Seattle (hopefully go hiking).
~ Visit the public library near my house.
