White Mountains Pictures

The beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire are about a 3 hour drive from Amherst. Just after we moved into our Amherst apartment, we went hiking there, and it was the most beautiful hike I've ever been on.

We hiked an 8.5 mile loop that included the Franconia Ridge Trail, which was also a piece of the Appalachian Trail, that went over Mt. Lincoln and Mt. Lafayette.

Here's my husband Bruce at the first of many waterfalls on the Falling Waters Trail.

This picture doesn't quite capture the stunning views we enjoyed on the hike along the ridge.

Bruce and I were blown around when we first reached the Franconia Ridge Trail, atop Little Haystack. We thought we were going to get stormed on, but the rain held off until we were off the ridge.

We saw this moose by the side of the Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire's White Mountains. It was early in the morning, and though several people had pulled over to stare at him, the moose didn't appear to mind.

This lake was at a pull-off beside the highway. I'd never seen lakes surrounded by mountains before. There was another one way up by Mt. Lafayette, right in front of the Greenleaf ACM hut.

We went to Lost River Gorge, a tourist attraction in the White Mountains. The river flows in and out of caves, and people have built wooden boardwalks that follow the river all over the rocky terrain.

The wooden paths even go throught the caves. It's pretty neat, though I couldn't help thinking how gorge-ous it might look without all the man-made paths.
