This week I started doing some coding. Brian asked me to write a program that would read in his data and analyze it. Ordinarily this would have been a relatively simple task, but Brian wanted it in Perl which meant I had to learn a new language to code it. During the first few days, I struggled with the syntax and details of the language. By the end of the week I felt like I had a pretty good grasp on the language but was having a few problems with the program. I had basically written what I believed to be a working program, but due to a few indiscrepancies in the data, I was unable to test my program without changing the data by hand or hacking some code to ignore the problem areas. Since Brian was out of town all week, I was unable to ask him for help. We'll see what happens when he gets back on Monday.
