Navigation Bar Week 3 Log
The abridged version of my log:

Day 1:
Met with various top dogs, who gave me some more marching orders. I investigated the data structure of the classes we have in Protege right now, to see which links could be used as a query subject. I also started to expand the program, so that the subject and object now pulls up more options. The next step, and the harder one, is to expand the number of relationships the GUI can handle.

Day 2:
Spent all day working on this web page. I don't think I need to make it as pretty as all this, but it's been a lot of fun. Maybe I should forget this computer science research stuff and just be a webmaster, eh?

Day 3:

Spent the morning getting the CS department here to display my web page. Spent a good chunk of the afternoon in a meeting. I at least got my job, both long term and short term, clarified, which is always useful. I started modifying Ann's program to get rid of obsolete stuff and see what new relations I can enable it to handle.

Day 4:

Talked with Onard today, and Dr. Rosse! Got my job clarified enormously, which makes me happy! Now that we have the basic data fetch down, thanks to the program I inherited, I got a list of questions we'd like to be able to answer in the future, and ideas on how to parse it/boil it down to the simple queries the program can do. I went over the anatomical organization of the Foundational Model, since knowing which link/relation to go down to get the answer you want helps formulate which query to ask. (The queries are structured around the relationships). I did more work on updating Ann's program, so that it runs ok for most cases.

Day 5:
Trying to dig up how to handle the slots in which the value is ìinstanceî not ìclassî this morning. That involved looking at the Protege documentation and doing some trial and error in the Java program. Got the program to be able to handle all anatomical entites, and all current relations (both having class and instance value). Worked on adapting the interface to handle Yes/No questions, but I'll need to debug that next time.
